How often do well-intentioned hyperlinks have undesired effects, or at least unintentional consequences?
Thanks to BBC iPlayer I have just watched – twenty-four hours late – the excellent Bill Emmott documentary for BBC Four “Good Italy, Bad Italy”. With perfect topicality, it vividly shows some brilliant highs and shocking lows of that wonderful country, which could offer so much more to its people if it/they could get a few fundamentals right. Like speeding up the judicial system, breaking politicians’ links with the mafia…
As is usual, the end of the programme was followed by suggested further viewing. Under “More like this” were just two links – to “Scottish Parliament” and “Politics Scotland”.
Is the BBC trying to tell us something?
